#1, what about using it only for the mic so I can use Shazam on my ipod.. Is it worth it for that, in your opinion?

I have these (or their cousin) These sound awful... Tinny thin sound. No bass.
For a backup set of headphones for making calls in the car is all these are good for... pass.

#2 - ipod? Does that have a mic input through the 3.5mm jack? I don't think it does... It will fit an ipod, but not utilize the mic... I could be wrong... but I don't think so. Go talk to an Apple Genius at your local Apple store.
