Paid $190 for my first CD burner. 4x Plextor. And that was in '90's money. Really, it's the cost of the media that needs to drop before I'm in. A one time purchase that's a little high is nothing compared to buying hundreds of overpriced disks.

Yeah... I guess til BD-R dont become $1/disk... an MKV on USB thumbdrive is the best solution

This model works great for backing up my BR collection to a WD Media Player's external HD using AnyDVD HD and sometimes needing to use TsRemux on .MTS files that have the audio in the main MTS.
Screw the expense and hassle of using BR disc.

Ya, I'm thinking of jumping on this to backup my BD lib to mkv to play on the WDTV. Maybe I'll just get the 5X ROM.....

Good drive. The included BD-RE (rewritable) is worth about $15. Mine was defective (bad spot on the disk) and I still haven't been able to get LG to replace it despite calling and being shunted because nobody at LG knows what a BluRay rewritable disk is. I've been told twice I'd have a new one in a week.
