| The Canon A1000 was DPReview's worst rated camera in 2008, and the CHDK firmware bricked their test camera. FACT! |
you forgot the *smirk*
DPReview has yet to actually review the A1000 camera. So, they didn't have a test camera, and therefore could not have bricked one with 3rd party firmware.
Additionally, CHDK firmware does not modify the camera hardware, and is only stored on the SD card. Remove the card, and your camera is back to the original cannon firmware. Using CHDK does not void the warranty.
And, CHDK firmware for the A1000 camera was not available in 2008, so no one could have used it then.
At Amazon, the user reviews for the A1000 average at 4.5 out of 5 stars.

#3, I challenge you to compare image quality of the A1000 to the Fujifilm F100fd. You can use the following site to do a side by side comparison of test images using both cameras:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
Take a look at the images taken with high ISO settings (ex. ISO 800,, 1600, etc.). IMO there is no contest, the F100fd beats the A1000. BTW, the F100fd is currently on sale for $145 AR.
