it's actually nice to take advantage of the current SSD trend, even if you're unwilling to take the dive. High end conventional notebook magnetic platter drives are extremely affordable, even for those who don't care.

USB is the bottleneck, no need to get anything over 5400rpms(4200rpm would probably cut it too)
unless you're planning to shove this into a laptop or an eSATA enclosure, there's no point. Get the 5400rpm for lower price/power consumption

I'll never purchase a hard drive from NewEgg again. NewEgg's packaging is as bad as it gets so the hard drive is very likely to get damaged during shipping. Don't just take my word for it, look at the reviews.
