The reviews on this thing are terrible. Clunky design, so-so image quality, horrible software interface (which you must use), and horror stories of incompatibility.

I have a different model (negatives or slides) and confirm that the the resulting image files are not of the archive quality most would desire. They are barely good enough for web display at 640x480 resolution, IMHO.
Also, be careful that drivers are available for your OS. Some are Vista only (no WinXP) or require that you purchase the driver for your OS. Mac and Linux people are used to checking this carefully, but MS-Windows people need to do it for these devices too.

It's not a scanner. It's a cheap digital camera in a plastic box that takes a picture of your picture.
