#1: this does not have a HDMI output, so if you're trying to play HD video on your TV, you'd have to buy an additional DVI-HDMI adapter as well.

Also, this is a full height card, so it will not fit into smaller HTPC cases.

ATI 3450's and 4350's have been on sale on newegg recently for this same price, or even lower, and some of those include a half-height bracket, HDMI output, and the passive cooling.

No you don't, HDMI is not mandatory for HD nor for a monitor.

I was being sarcastic, it's dumb to buy a new video card to reuse an old PC for a HTPC when you can get a mATX board, CPU powerful enough to decode on it's own, and more memory than it would ever need for almost free. The key thing that I will once again remind about is not all content plays, even on compatible players, with GPU acceleration working if supported at all. There is a wide and deep gulf of content that isn't a retail BR movie disc.

Few TV's have a DVI input, HDMI is much more common. As I said, if you want to play HD video on your TV, you'd likely have to buy an additional adapter. Sure, you could hook up your TV with the S-Video output, but you won't be getting HD video out.
