#6 in my experiences, yes. my older fujitsu from 2003 and my semi old dell inspiron 600 from 2005 and my semi new hp dv6000 all use the same optical drive form factor and connectors.

#6 no all systems do not have the same set up. your first option is sata or ide interface. Then for ide you have to know if it is master or slave and reflash the firmware on the drive if it does not match the setup requirements.
