The Wacom Graphire4 6x8 is a way better deal. 4x6 is too small. I just got a Graphire4 6x8 for $90-something shipped from one of those education places. You don't need the higher Intuos resolution or the tilt sensitivity. Think of how ridiculously high the resolution is per inch. What is the use of it? The extra pressure sensitivity levels for an Intuos should be unnoticeable as well.

Highly recommend for illustrators, digital painters. I was using a tiny graphire for years and finally picked up an intuos4 6x8 and it's amazing.
This ad is for a 4x6, but I suggest going with a 6x8 intous3 or 4 if you can afford it. However, if you're on a budget and don't need the extra pressure sensitivity go with an older version of the graphire (the new wireless models are $250) or the new bamboo (starting at $80).
