Anybody ever upgrade the hard drive on these netbooks? Can a regular 2.5" SATA hard drive be swapped for the SSD that's in there?

No, these use mini PCI-e card SATA SSDs. Runs at least $50 for a 16GB upgrade. Better deal at Zipzoomfly on the 900A with Atom, better battery life and more memory for $179. ZZF seems to have a special relationship with Asus

I own the eeepc 1000he (10 inch), which has a hard drive that can be swapped. A little more money than the C900, but certainly worth it in a lot of ways.

Thanks #3,
is it worth it to "step up" to the Dell Mini 10 @ w_almart for $298? (ie, you could almost get two of the asus you mention for that price; don't know if any features justify the Dell)
I would rather have HD storage (size) over SSD for now.
EDIT: #4 how does 1000he stack vs Dell mini 10?

Not sure about the Dell, but I must say that the Asus 1000he is a nice netbook. I like the 92% key board, which is easy to type unlike other mini's. 160 gig hard drive has plenty of storage. The Intel Atom N280 processor has plenty of beef to stream video from my server. The only thing I did when I got it was upgrade the memory to 2 gig. Hope this helps #5

The SSD that comes with the 900 is not as slow, but the battery life is unacceptable IMO. So I'd pick the 900A of the two. But I'd probably end up buying a new SSD and killing the deal, I'd rather just wait for something that has all components acceptable except a RAM upgrade, not refurbished, and <$200 delivered. Should happen soon at this rate.

Give me a monstrous battery and a full day runtime, having to stop using a system because it's sleek small battery prevents a day of use is an unnecessary weakness, fail by design.

#12, not everyone has a small unit like yourself, and so do not need to over compensate as you do.

I'd rather a 12" laptop too, but they are powerful enough for the tasks people most want to do on a netbook, and a 12" laptop costs about double what a netbook does on average, if not more.

These netbooks have more than enough power to do what they are designed for. I can't even imagine what you're trying to do on a little tiny netbook that requires more "power" because almost anyone with those requirements would have been knowledgeable enough to buy a high end machine, and certainly they would be intelligent enough not to go out and purchase a 1000he because a 1000h was underpowered.
