I still think it's more dangerous to make me find my headset, turn it on and wait for it to connect to my phone than to just let me pick up the phone, see what the person wanted and hang up

Refurbished? I don't like the idea of buying something refurbished that has quite possibly been in someone else's ear. Besides, this thing looks a bit bulky and uncomfortable.

#2, it does depend on the headset. I have a motorola 700, and it's easy to flip open and hook onto my ear, without looking. I keep it in the cup holder, so I don't have to look for it at all, it's just there. It connects pretty quickly, too.
