#1, I don't think that's entirely true. I think e-Machines and Gateway are significantly worse. That said, HP isn't quite top notch, but their machines are certainly passable. I'm presently running a refurbished model and it's working pretty well.
Don't let the brand name scare you away from this computer, rather let the knowledge that you can probably get a Dell with roughly the same specs for about the same price lead you in a different direction. = )

But 2006 I bought a couple of real cheap AMD dual core HP box's put in new pwr supply and dedicated graphics, extra RAM. Decapified. Rock solid. Personally HP has upped their game and DELL has slid.
Agree re bloatware though and HP software sucks.
