get the WD HD TV instead..bacon has 1080P and supports more file formats...and you can add storage to it in the form of a USB drive, not just a memory cards lot, like this one.

I think there's a problem with the universal translator.

What is that bacon thing, I've seen it a few times. Someone explain?

This one has an installed 320GB HD w/SATA support and 1080iHD output and reads HD files. For price and features this is a better buy. Why do you think that's not true? Read the specs this is a steal!

Bacon is the word Ben uses to replace certain other words, #5, you bacon-loving bacon eater.

Ok kids, here comes the story:
Long long time ago, when #1, #5 and #7 where little kids, there was a freebie that Ben posted here. The freebie was for a bacon. The legend says that those who applied never got their bacon. Needless to say but those who didn't apply, did get their bacon either. That's pretty much the story. It's a quite sad story. It makes me cry every time I think about bacon that i didn't get ...

Ben, maybe you should put a sticky explaining some slang used here (hint hint). In this case I won't have to cry every time I think about the bacon i didn't get ...

The only word replaced by "bacon" is: bacon .... oh, right, it still changes it to bacon.

JonKemp - it comes with a drive. yay.

It does not however support any of the h.264 file containers nor does it support raw ISO, among other file types that make it, at best, a generic video player.

Really, the only useful format it does support is mpeg for, which in the downloads world is very limiting.

Unless you enjoy spending an hour converting every 2 hours worth of video you plan to watch - this is not at all a good deal.

How do you hook this thing up, anyway? I keep thinking some sort of NAS will do the trick, but this doesn't seem to fit the bill.

I have a WDTV and love it. I like the card reader this one has, the WD TV only has USB ports. Some Homebrew firmware is out that allows connection for wireless networking and external DVD players.
The WDTV plays 1080p

Frys has the WDTV for $99.99

Get a hacked xbox with xbmc, with an upgraded hard drive. That's what I am using to play divx movies.

The neat thing this player has is the support for RM/RMVB. It may not seem very useful to some, but there are many video still using rm/rmvb, which many standalone players lack. I agreed that if it supports H.264, MKV, and TS, then it would almost be a perfect player. But again, it's for those who are looking for a RM/RMVB player at an affordable price, which isn't bad at all. 320GB should be plenty enough for the smaller file sizes of this format.
