Dang, I just ordered a 100 pack of RiDATA from the Egg for $20. Would have preferred to get these. I've used a bunch of Memorex and they seem to do pretty good.

For this price, you should wait and pick up the 100pk of Verbatim DVDs that constantly pop up ($18-22). Much better shelf life and more consistent quality.

What is the expected shelf life anyway of a dvd? I know it's longer than a cdr, but exactly how long can you consider it safe for backups before you would reburn new ones? 5 years?

Just wait until your HDD crashes and you stick in your Memorex disk with your backed up files on it. The only thing you will see is Windows saying, "Please insert disk."

What's the best brand?

Decent price and no rebate. I prefer Verbatim for my burner.

These are decent if ya need 'em. I've done well with these in the past.
