yay free popcorn.... too bad a large coke is 7 bucks.

They need to make their money somewhere. They only get 1-2 bucks per ticket they sell. When I worked at one most Movies took 80-85% of ticket revenue for the first few weeks... They make more money on the tickets 3 or 4 weeks after the first run, but since less people are seeing the movie they lose money on food sales.

Granted I do think that should strive for less then a 600% markup on goods.

Go to Costo and purchase a pair of tickets. They still may be including a coupon for a free large drink (worth $ 5) in the 2-pack of tickets being sold for $ 16 vs. paying $ 20 for 2 tickets at the theater.

Also, register for the MOVIEWATCHER card & use it -- you will get coupons good for free items/discounts/etc.

Finally, ask at the service counter if you can bring in drinks and food. I was told it was OK!

AMC is probably the only one who does allow you to bring in your own drinks around here. I've brought my Nalgene bottle full of water in my hand and they didn't say anything about it.

Hooray, as others have pointed out you get to spend $7 on that large coke and still manage to get less than $1 worth of food overall.

The real problem is the movie theatre is a wasted experience. When two people go to a movie for $20 in tickets and another $20 in food, I'd rather take that $40 and buy a new Blu-ray (less for DVD) movie for $30 and buy food for 6 of my friends to watch a movie at home. Then you don't have to deal with sticky floors, ignorant f-tards that can't shut up, uncomfortable seats, an inability to choose when I want to watch the movie and to pause the movie when you have to take a piss and poor quality projection and/or sound systems systems. And the turnover rate on movies now is really good at about 3 months after a movie ends it's theatrical run. Hell, Netflix makes it so I don't even need to think about when a new release is coming out and makes it even cheaper for me.

The amount of money I saved in not going to the movies for a year paid for my home theater setup.

This must be a mistake. I read somewhere else saying that's a coupon for a large Copporn without coke...

To #6's point I only go to see a new movie in the local history centers Imax... its 7.50 to get in (cheaper then the AMC) and its in real IMAX not that lie max you see everyone else with. So in truth I goto the imax movies around 4 times a year. Star Trek (seen), Transformers(for me), Harry Potter(kids), and I think thats it for this year.

I'll take it. The food at the theaters are such a rip-off. Can't afford to go see the regular show times. I stick to the matinees for $6.

I worked in AMC in high school - we weren't allowed to stop people from bringing food in, as long as it wasn't overly smelly (heavily spiced middle eastern food or cheese), overly loud (paper packaging ok, but not chip bags), or potentially dangerous (close to a bad part of town, so no glass allowed inside). Other than that, go wild - walked in with burger, fries and a soda once, no complaints.

does that mean I can finally go to the movies for under $50... what a steal!
