Very handy unit. I could easily be called a Cisco fanboy (Linksys is the child company of Cisco). Toss 2 1TB drives in this thing and have a 1 button backup solution for most home networks (minus the people who have a TON of video files).

You definitely want to make sure you have a fast network (gigabit over megabit) or make sure you run this at a time when no one wants to use the internet because it will consume plenty of your network bandwidth

DLink DNS323 gets better reviews.

Do any of you guys have an opinion about Online Backup services like Mozy and Box.net? I typically use an external hard drive, but it's about 3 feet away from my computer so if anything catastrophic happens, then I'd probably lose both.

That's funny #1 making the comment about definitely making sure you have a fast gigabit network, especially since this device only has a single 10/100 port.

This is the worst device ever created by Linksys. I gave mine away. Super slow because of the 10/100 nic. I bought three dns-323 devices and one dns-343 device and have never looked back and never had one issue.

Love my DNS323 as well. Inexpensive, reliable, quiet, fast. Cisco, schmisco.

backing up is for cholos. real men pee on their computers to tempt fate.

And it's running hot too.

I saw 10 comments and was hoping for a flame war.

Sadly that is not the case.

Nonetheless, this is only 10/100. The DNS-323 isn't the best device either, but I feel it is adequate. It has issues on older firmwares so make sure you update first.

i have this one. it goes to sleep when not in use and is rock solid when awake. yes, it is slow but then again i only move about 1 to 1.5gb at a time. it works in the background and i keep on moving.

Mozy
I have a home account and backed up mail and pictures -26 gigs, when I lost a machine I had all files back in under an hour, well worth it. If you need less than two gigs it is free.

#13 what is the price you pay for backing up 26GB and how fast if you connection to download and have your files ready under 1 hour?

I already have over 4TB of movies, programs and data, I wonder how much that will cost me a month?
