#3 is right. This would be my third one after the battery died again. I never thought to crack it open and see what kind of battery is there -anyone know? Really though, when you start running w/ one of these, you never want to run again without one -it makes that much of a difference.

I'd strongly recommend the Garmin Forerunner 50. It's the entry level unit (no GPS), but with heart rate strap and foot pod (prices have dropped recently), and data transfer to your PC, it helps a lot with training.

If the battery dies in less than a year, apple will replace it for you. The battery is just a CR2032 coin type. Unfortunately, its glued together. You can replace it yourself, but you have to work a bit to get it open (which I agree is BS). Its just greedy of them. Instead of charging you 20 bucks for a new sensor, why can't they at least swap your dead one for like 5-10 dollars. It would be a "refurb", but I'm sure the electronics are pretty reliable. Basically charge enough to cover the labor and battery cost, plus just a little on top. the whole kit itself new is only 30.
