Wow, that's a pretty good deal. The Archos 5 (and 7) have BEAUTIFUL screens. However, their software is less than desirable. Also, you are required to pay for various software add-on and they ain't cheap!

I checked pricespider.com and it looks like the 5 price dropped (not sure about the 7) about 2-3 weeks ago. Newegg's 250GB price dropped $20 in a day...wonder what's up. Maybe they're clearing out older (less reliable?) inventory?

For the same money, I could have bought an atom N270 mini laptop which I can take it with me anywhere and play anything that I want.

#3 if work harder and make more money you can have both. Please stop comparing a netbook with a portable media player.

#1 - I have the Archos 5 120GB - got it from newegg for $199 a month ago - the newest firmware (654) from the archos site has been rock-steady for me.
You still have to buy the plug-ins separately (3 of them - Cinema (DVD, MPEG2 video, AC3 audio),
Video Podcast (H.264, AAC Audio), and
HiDef Video (720p WMV and MPEG-4) which I bought off ebay as a package for $30.
I love it.
