Does this thing actually work?

They work great on hardwood floors. So,so on carpet. I have had the previous model for over 4 years. I would replace it if it broke.

#1, battery life is hit or miss on the refurb's, but iRobot customer service has never let me down. I have owned 4 models (all still going, gave 2 away as I replaced them with newer models) through the years, and they all do a decent job. They don't replace your large vacuum cleaner, but do reduce the frequency you would need to drag it out. Dust bins are small, and they aren't terrific on pet hair on carpet (fine on hardwood). Also, my first one ripped the tassels off my wife's favorite rug in the foyer, so be aware of things like this. This is a good price for the Discovery model.

I don't think one could ever have enough robots. Even if they do suck.
