500 watts at 12 volts is over 41 amps.
If standard 15 amp household wiring uses 14 gauge romex
and 20 amp would use like 12 gauge. What gauge should you use for the battery clamps on this if you expect to use the full 500 watts? that is some thick wire! It would also drain your car battery rather quickly. Luckily I doubt this can get near 500 watts.

Do you think it might drain the battery?
Because its 110 when comes out,its 500 at 110 dude.

    Great Review though from oldegg...

"I purchased 2 of these units. When using with the Accessory jack cable, the colors are incorrectly labeled. The RED on the Cable must go to the BLACK on the inverter, and the BLACK on the cable must go to the RED on the Inverter. I blew about 5 fuses in my car before I figured out the cable was labeled wrong. Check the cable with your OHM Meter and make sure that the Center pin is the +(red) before use."

4.54 amps on the 110vAC side, not a big deal. the wires should be about as thick as good lamp cord or speaker wire. 4.545...amps x 110v = 500 watts.

On the 12 vDC side, 500 watts is 41.6666... amps. 41.666x 12v = 500Watts. High Amps make wires hot if they are too thin. Look at the wire going from a car battery to the starter. It is very heavy duty.

The wires going from your car battery or cigarette lighter need to be thick if you are going to do anything over say 100 watts. You could melt the wires on your cigarette lighter or blow the fuse on it if you try to use this for too much power.

At high power this is something you would only use with your car running.
