Norton Internet Security has kept my computer from doing things that I need to do for my job, but it is good at limiting exposure to undesirable internet sites.

I just wanted to say that trying a new product probably wouldn't hurt.

Might as well jump into the unanimous pool. I and several friends and family have been using Zone Alarm free version FW for several years. It doesn't suck mega resources like Norton, and ZA works well. I haven't used the Suite version yet, but others say it works well for other stated functions too.

and AVG plus (includes a firewall) uses fewer resources then ZA without anti-virus. ZA is a true resource hog.

Can the antivirus get rid of winfixer95 virus?

Zone Alarm is good, much better than the standard windows firewall that most people have.

#11 is right that there is a lot of free software out there that will more or less do the job of the Zone Alarm suite. I use esecretmaker which has a bunch of privacy function as well. But for $7, this is a pretty damn good deal.

There are better free software firewalls out there. I suggest checking out Sygate Personal Firewall or even Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall.

Version 6.5 (I think 2006) won Cnet's Editor's Choice Award (June 2006). Beat Norton and McAfee. Here's the link:

Is it better than the free one? This one IS free (especially if you buy it in the store) Smile

AVG does poorly on polymorphics and other advanced virus techniques. Deemed acceptible. Only Avira and Norton got all the polymorphics.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse_2006_08.php

In this roundup of free AV, AVG scored dismally, at ~30% detection of viruses, adware, and spyware.

Zone Alarm uses the Computer Associates AV technology.

Good product. I have been very satisfied with its performance. Zone Alarm has a good reputation and you can't beat it for this price.

#20 your right on AVG RULES!!! Best D_MN free anti virus software out there. It has caught a bunch of stuff my Norton never saw.

I've used the free version in combination with AVG w/ no problems in a long time. Beats most of the free stuff out there at least...

I tried using the firewall but it's really annoying when starting out and when playing online games. I ended up just uninstalling it.

i would also recommend ZA. been a long-time user and very satisfied with the product. have recommended it to several friends who have used it for several years w/o problems.
