First time that I have seen the refurb offered with the 20g hard drive and the controller for approximately $150. Guess that the RROD returns/fixes have these things stacking up.

Refurb 360 - at your own risk. Hell even a new 360 is at your own risk. What is it, 30% failure rate?

Why would they be stacking up because the RROD fixes? For every one that comes in, one goes out. When you send one in for repair, they don't send you a new one, they send you somebody elses that has been repaired.

But the price is sooooo low..... it is calling me

#3, Then where are the refurbs coming from?
#6   jlayman920 - Posted 11:09 am PDT 07/3/09 (255 Posts)
#5 Not saying that some of the refurbs aren't RROD related but it would also consist of other repaired problems and open box(refurb doesn't always mean repaired). Many people think that when they send their RROD stricken Xbox in that Microsoft is sending them a brand new Xbox back or even the Xbox that they originally sent and that's not the case. I'm sure occasionally, due to the ebb and flow of what they are receiving, they do send out a new one but the vast majority are just repaired units.

I got a refurbished 20GB unit from buy.com a time back for $180 or so.

Two months in, I got distorted graphics (looked like failing memory)an E74 error message (quarter-red-ring-of-death).

It was refurbished and out of warranty, but luckily the E74 error has a special extended warranty, so they'll repair it and send it back for free!

So yeah, these things are going to fail eventually (what hardware wont?) but the price is pretty good and you might hit the warranty jackpot.

WARNING! The e-Cost site does not specify this has HDMI.

A new arcade at $169, + refurb hard drive for $27 is a much better option. At least you know that the unit hasn't been abused for hundreds of hours before it came to you.

Hmm.. Ecost.com and buying something that is known to fail and will fail.. Ill pass.

minus e-cost from the equation = priceless Smile

this isn't like the arcade version in that it at least plays some of the old xbox games right? Don't want to replace my old xbox, if I can't even play the games I bought for it.

The console are pretty much the same (except for the silver dvd-face plate on the Pro) different is the hard drive which you need to store update to play Xbox legacy games.

Don't do it!! Get an arcade version with the new innards 65nm gpu and 65nm cpu for cooler and more power efficient playing. I'm on my 4th 360 in 4 years.... ouch. My 3rd one sh|t the bed just recenty and I just ended up gettin the new one with HDMI at gamestop. I hope this one will last me until the next gen consoles come out but I ain't holdin my breath.. lol.

This is a great price. I don't know what's wrong with all you guys. I've had my 360 for over 2 years now and haven't had any issues. Ok, 1, but that was because someone moved the 360 while a disc was spinning in it. But that was not the 360's fault. Nor was it microsoft's.
My only issue with the 360 is that almost all of the games are pretty much the same: first person shooters.

#2 where did you get that statistic from?

I have never seen a dead Xbox and I have plenty of friends who own them. My guess you own the bullet proof PS3?
