i have 6 of these in series for my tire inflation needs.

These are the cream of the crop compressors when it comes to low-volume, inflation-type tasks. The included accesory kit is a real bonus, as well. Just don't expect to run any air tools or do any sandblasting, etc.

For upgraded tasks, Home Depot is running a special on a Rigid 4.5-gallon portable compressor, 175 psi, 4.9 scfm@90psi, for $264. Killer deal on a very capable rig, but still small enough for garage use. Use an HD or Lowe's (they accept) 10% coupon that are floating around (apply on HD or Lowe's site on "moving" page).

These are normally $100-- not a deal. Not a bad compressor, but Sears also has a "pancake" style for the same price that does not require you to add and change oil. Anyway, good for a nail gun or airwrench or inflating you kids' toys.

2&3 are both spot-on. This is a great compressor for lower-volume needs; it will run most air tools, nail guns, etc just fine, but can't do sandblasting or other high-volume tasks. However, while the price is "regularly" 129 or whatever, it takes no effort to routinely find it <100, so this isn't a "jump now or regret later" kind of deal...

If I am looking for something to strictly maintain the air pressure in my car's tires (<50psi) periodically is this a good choice? Thanks!!!

#7, Good choice for that or most household compressed air needs. You might want a little more/better hose.

#7, if you're just inflating tires, why not get a $20 tire inflator built for that purpose?

this compressor is neither here nor there, it's overkill for inflating tires but not enough capacity for doing any sort of serious work with a nailgun

Not enough power and small tank for serious home improvement job.
