    HELLO BROOKLYN!

Seven online merchants operating more than 40 Web sites have agreed to pay a $765,000 settlement following an investigation by the New York State Attorney General's office, the AG's office said.

"These companies engaged in the worst kinds of consumer fraud, from classic bait-and-switch schemes to blatant lies and bullying sales tactics," New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said in a news release that went out Thursday. "Let this be a message to online merchants everywhere: such abuse of consumers and violation of the law will not be tolerated."

All of the companies were based in Brooklyn, and while their names invoke digital photography, many also sell gear ranging from projectors to HDTVs and computers.

#1, did you imply that the Apes of Maine participated in the settlement? If so, that's good. There are a whole bunch of bad guys out there care not to pay a dime. Kudos to bad (?) guys in Brooklyn!

    sorry, what i am implying:

Abe's is another one of those Brooklyn scam stores that takes part in up selling, lying and "calling to confirm your order" crap.

Yes they were not tagged in this first sweep from the NY AG, but just give it time.

Just don't buy from these stores.

The owners and employees are actually the same as a few of the others that were tagged in this. So, kudos to you Mr Cuomo from a happy Brooklynite.

AoM doesn't go as far over the line as the ones who got tagged. They tend to be annoying and occasionally misleading more than straight out crooks. If you've got any willpower and don't mind their follow up sales calls trying to get you to upgrade, you can get good deals through them. But I'm not surprised they are affiliated with the bad companies in their neighborhood.

I've bought from Adorama at the same price as honest Abe... they don't bug me. They are quite prompt. I'm quite happy with my D40!

Those Brooklyn companies are all run by families from a huge Hasidic community in Brooklyn. They all know each other and have manhattan businesses as well. Most of the small electronics dealers around the NYC are shifty. Just make sure you can use a credit card so you can issue a chargeback when they rip you off.

Nice camera, bad store. AoM is fine if you live locally - they don't mess with you. But if you order from outside NY or NJ, they mess you up. Check sellerreviews. Order from bhphotovideo.com, and sleep soundly.

"They tend to be annoying and occasionally misleading..."

Your right, I should totally accept that kind of behavior.
