I'm thinking a double layer air mattress is more comfortable and takes up less space.

I slept on one of these for 5 months during a war. I hope I never sleep on one again, not very comfy. Air mattresses only for me.

I slept on a cheaper model - with a L L Bean self-inflating mat (1"thick) and slept great. The problem with the inflatable air mattress is in cold weather you freeze your arse off - the cold comes right through. Also, you look a bit sissified using an air mattress on a camping trip.
