In a perfect world, sure they would eliminate the need for manual labor.. But sadly in this world you are going to need to do it yourself. But spend the money if you have it.

I have a newer 500 series model and it seems to do OK. I gave a friend one as a house warming gift and she loves it. BTW, she has 8, yes 8, cats.

I have read many reviews and such on these. Seems the general idea is it works "ok" These are not heavy duty vacumes with any real power. thye are great for light cleaning, and small rooms. They navigate again, "ok" many reviews state they will get confused, and run out of juice trying to figure stuff out if its moved. YOU CAN NOT leave anything on the floor. If your room as several doorways, most come with 1 set of barriers, so you would need to buy more. They do not do whole houses.good for a living room, high traffic area. for $100 might be worth a try, but a good 2-3 year vacume is about $100 too, and it will work (well you will work too).

Mine worked for a while. Now it sits in the closet b/c I don't want to pay $ to make it a refurbished version.

I have the same model and has worked pretty good for the most part. Posts are correct in that it does not do deep cleaning but it picks up pretty much everything. You must periodically clean the rollers to keep it working efficiently. Also, I have had to replace the battery as the original one eventually died out. I have had it for about 2 years. It has been worth the money.

i have had the explorer 400 for 2 years, it is great for daily cleanup maintenance, you need to pick up anyhting that would tangle the roomba, and then program daily cleanup the remote has a calendar outlook style, the roomba wakeups every monring at 7 am cleans and when i am back to work remove trash tray empty and that's it. worth its weight in gold. the only problem i have ever had is battery die after 2 years, irobot wanted 69.99 for it, but i got it off ebay for 27.00 . great investment

I've got the 530 model and it does do a decent job - just need to remember to empty the bin and check the filter. Definitely beats vacuuming yourself.
