I think I'd prefer something like this over many of the solid state/HDD based cams you see now. The tapes are not all that expensive and can be used many times or archived.

Is this refurbished? Kohl's link says "Manufacturer's 90-day limited warranty" but doesn't say it's refurbished. I looked at JVC's product site & couldn't find warranty info.

mini dv are a pain in the arse working with because they have to be copied to a computer in real time - life is too short.

magnetic tape degrades over time. I've spent years converting data tape drives to digital media for large companies.
this will soon be on the scrap heap of history.
