Better off looking for a 9 series card with a fan & dual DVI.

What's wrong with this one?

Ya price doesn't cut it on this one. I like these cards a lot but they really need to come down in price ($10-15 would be nice). They're a cheap and very energy efficient card for a PC that doesn't require much in terms of video performance. I'm putting one in my server since the motherboard I have in it doesn't have onboard video. These cards use a very small amount of energy.

that chart is for the entire system not just the video card or overestimates power draw by a long long way.

GTX 295's overclocked don't draw more than 240w by themselves. w/ 8 pin and 6 pin supplemental power a card is capped at 300w anyways. (wattage listed is power drawn at the wall)

You can underclock lots of cards to end up with a trivial power consumption, though I'd have to agree for a server you might as well get the cheapest thing with driver support for your chosen OS.

Main drawback on this card is while it would've otherwise been acceptable for a HTPC, it lacks HDMI.

Something to consider about video card power consumption charts in general (didn't bother to spend the time to see if it applied to the one linked in particular)... To get a peak reading with a card you generally have to put it under a load like gaming, but with a slower card the card itself being the bottleneck, it'll leave the rest of the system sitting idle a great deal of the time so things like CPU and chipset consume less power too.

A proper power consumption test would run something in the background at low priority that stresses all CPU cores and the memory bus too, then that result compared against testing without anything else running to come up with a more normalized system consumption minus card consumption differences.

You people wanting HDMI or dual DVI on a $20 video card that takes less power than all others are seriously stupid.

First, HDMI is just DRM on a chip. You knuckleheads are gonna figure this out very soon. My generation disabled the serial number on the cpu. Your's sucked down the hot beef injection and then asked for seconds up the rear.

Second, If my motherboard doesn't have sound yet, you have larger issues- or it's a server motherboard. And if it's a server motherboard, you don't use 3d. 2d only on servers unless you like crashing and losing your job.

And lastly, dual DVI- what, so you can half the power you already have? Genius.

Sorry for the attitude ladies. I'm feeling a little superior. The rebate thing, I agree with. Even though it's Asus, it's still a rebate.

For $20 it's a nice upgrade to on-board video or for a silent HTPC build. I've never had a problem with Asus or the Egg for rebates so everybody can calm down over a $10 rebate.

Can anyone suggest a proper video card to use for a Phenom (either dual or quad core) system? I definitely don't expect a bottleneck but I don't want to spend hundreds on a vid card either, unless it's the only chance. Thanks in advance.

I don't understand you're logic on that, do you mean when running Dual monitors you take a perfomance hit of 50%?

While this card was actually $20 (not $23) back like the end of May! Why would in all that is sensible would a card that's almost 3 years old go up in price? It's really is from a lack of new products in the low end that now is drying up supply. It appears until either company provides some thing actually new this is scraps we get.

This is a great card to keep in a static bag and have in the tool box to check out if it a IGP or discrete VGA card is thew cause of a problem.

Oh, and for those who won't deal with rebates, this is a better card. Consider this is GDDR3 memory, half-height w/bracket, while this is a 25W card so that still low power. You'll add $7 more to your total out-of-pocket price, but sometimes you get what you pay for!

Was thinking about getting this or an 8500GT to try out HybridSLI on my M3N78-EM. Is it worth it? I've noticed that Nvidia has removed their webpage for Desktop HybridSLI but the Notebook HybridSLI is still there. And that 8500s are harder to find and more expensive.
