I would much rather have the Mvix version. It has a bittorrent client and connects to your network.

#2, true, but the Mvix does seem to offer what lots of people are looking for, HD 1080P with lots of codec support (including MKV) like the Western Digital HD media player, PLUS network access (and a BitTorrent client thrown in).

can you update the firmware (e future codecs)? and if so, how responsive is MediaGate to that sort of thing? One reason I love my CradlePoint mbr1000 routery thing, it's updated regularly with new features and flexibility.

and "RTFA" doesn't cut it... "UPGRADEABLE - will allow for future firmware updates including new language support and file support inthe coming months" is vague.

looks like a decent unit that plays most formats including mkv, which is important. wonder if it's reliable.

MediaGate On Screen Display (OSD) is suck!

I would stick with the WDTV.
With the custom OSD FW, WDTV looks great!

this unit doesn't decode DTS? there would be no sound for DTS encoded movies unless u output it to a receiver via coax/optical?

this thing support 1080pHD and MKV also, and so does RMVB which the format they used alot in Asia, which mean this device are alot better then WDTV and their UI for this model looks very nice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlHy2GF5uGs

it support 95% of my file and WDTV support like about 75% out of total 750 movie clips

can someone confirm if they can play DTS-encoded audio through analog output? In order to listen to DTS-encoded files, you have to use coax/optical output to a receiver, correct?

pretty soon, all "DVD/BluRay" players will be able to do ALL of this.

This would be great if it had input connections so you can record HD broadcast directly to your hard drive like a DVR. I have the Iomega 1TB ScreenPlay Pro and i love it for this feature. The single biggest drawback however is it doesn't nearly play all the formats that these players do.

An ideal solution would be a combination of the two...basically a ScreenPlay Pro that can play every format.

I'd be surprised if all DVD/BluRay players would do this since they "don't want to support piracy"

Popcorn Hour and Dune HD are probably the best here. WD is nice as a budget alternative.

#1 This may seem like a dumb question, but can I play videos straight from a shared folder or do I have to have something tversity set up to stream them to the box. I have most of my video files converted to xbox 360 playable formats, but the damn 360 sucks for accessing my shared files. I have to reboot my pc, and sometimes my router every 24 hours or I cant access the stuff from my xbox. I don't know if it's vista, or the 360, but i'm sick of it. I'm also sick of having to run a conversion program for 8 hours just because that season of a tv series I just downloaded was in MKV format. SRT files for that anime? Convert. OGM files? Convert. I can do it, but it's so tedious and I think a set top like this would be a better solution for me, especially considering the Mvix will do netflix (which the 360 requires a gold live subscription for... lolwut?
