Despite the large 15.6" screen, the resolution is a pathetic 1366x768. That's a resolution that some 10" netbooks run. There's currently an HP laptop on sale that has a higher vertical resolution, on a 13" screen.

All too often, these laptop sales seem to be on models that have cut some corners in important areas.

True, #1. But that's why they are selling so cheap. Of course, they usually cut corners on the video card 1st and foremost, which really saps the versatility of the machine. This one has the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M. Also, this was selling at Office Max for only $470 seven months ago. Not a really significant price drop in the tech world.

My HP restore discs don't work. Test them before your warranty runs out!!

#3: what is on the restore disks that you can't download for free?

Sure, it's an annoyance, and you have every right to be mad at them, but it's not that big of a deal.
