One issue that keep me from this device is that it only has 10/100 Ethernet. D-Link NAS devices have 10/100/1000 Ethernet interface.

i use this and it works great. yes, it's slower but it has never crashed. i saw there is a firmware update, maybe that will help with speed.

Any thoughts on noise from this? Does it do any job quieting the hard drives within? Considering it to replace an HTPC and let my PCH/Xbox 360 take over.

I have one- does very nice at what it does. SLOWER THAN SLOWER transferring to the device, but Ive never had a problem streaming from it. I use it to watch DVD iso files across the network. It will just take hours though to put that iso file on the device. It doesn't get anywhere near 100mp/s. It is quiet. I have two seagate 1.5 drives in it.

Meh, the similar d-link DNS-321 is only $17 more, and it's reported to be a lot faster (at least it has a GbE NIC). It's also got a much larger hacking community, if you care about those sorts of things

The DNS-321 would be ok if Dlink would fix the bugs on it. I used to recommend it, but now can't with a clean conscience.

#6 Oio, what DO you recommend? I am looking for NAS that also has FTP that I can access when away from home. Thanks!

I agree with #7, except use an old cheap laptop or a low-power Atom-based PC and run either Windoze XP or Linux. Using an old desktop will consume alot of power, especially if it's run 24/7. You don't need much horsepower to do home fileserving.
