These things just keep getting cheaper and cheaper. Makes you wonder how much profit margin the manufacturers cleaned up with several years back when they were defrauding the public with thousand dollar rip offs.

They get cheaper to produce the longer they've been around. I believe this is the cheapest I've seen for a 42" Plasma.

The Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 is $628 at Amazon.

I'd go with an LCD with 1080p. Plasma technology will fade in a few years.

Even if plasmas go in a few years, why is that a reason to buy an inferior TV now?

Get the Panny instead, better PQ and far more reliable.

I'm thinking the Panny is the better buy.

I recommend the newer 120Hz or 240Hz LCDs over the Plasma. I have a 50" Plasma that you can feel the heat radiating from it 3-4 feet away. It sucks down the power too. I helped install 2 55" 240Hz LED LCDs last week and was blown away by the quality and black levels. With that being said, $599 is a good deal.

I got the 42 viera for 600 + tax at a sears. Great tv for the price. I'd go with the panny instead.
