They get cheaper to produce the longer they've been around. I believe this is the cheapest I've seen for a 42" Plasma.

I'd go with an LCD with 1080p. Plasma technology will fade in a few years.

Even if plasmas go in a few years, why is that a reason to buy an inferior TV now?

I recommend the newer 120Hz or 240Hz LCDs over the Plasma. I have a 50" Plasma that you can feel the heat radiating from it 3-4 feet away. It sucks down the power too. I helped install 2 55" 240Hz LED LCDs last week and was blown away by the quality and black levels. With that being said, $599 is a good deal.

I got the 42 viera for 600 + tax at a sears. Great tv for the price. I'd go with the panny instead.
