I suppose you would want this if the 1TB drive with dock for $10 less wouldn't do the trick? Do you really need this drive internally?

Oh sure, no problem. If I was to take take my laptop with me and I had to use a 1TB external, I'd need to fine an extra outlet. Moron!

Wouldn't it be quicker to just write write 2.5"?

#1, you forgot to mention that this drive is also slower than the 1 TB external. Different horses for different courses. If you need lots of storage inside your laptop, this deal is hard to beat. But if you can live with the bulk and inconvenience of an external drive, there are lots of larger/faster/cheaper alternatives. There's always a tradeoff (usually both speed and $/GB) for the more portable 2.5" form factor.

just bought one WD for 89.99 shipped. damn.
but yea, not everybody will carry external HDD when they go on alaska trip, specially when his or her notebook can fit in 2 hdd.

Good point #4. You are correct. I was just attempting to point out the other 1TB external deal on this site for consideration when looking at the price of this drive.
