Between a 6-disc MP3 CD player in the car and the occasional burning of files to give to someone else, yes. Giving a 16 cent CD to someone with 5-700 MB worth of stuff is still cheaper/easier than a flash drive or file transfer.
Why don't we ever see 100-pack spindles for $5 or FAR anymore? Someone's still gotta be making cheap, crappy, near-disposable quality CDs somewhere...

A friend of mine is a wholesaler, I usually pay him $1.25 for a pack of printing paper while office depot sells the same thing for $4.99

TDK CD-R Recordable Discs, 700MB, 52x, 100 pk for $12.99. If you don't mind TDk over Sony, this could save you a few dollars. Or you can go frys for GQ (item # 3586674 on sales now limited one) or Ridata( item # 5837813) 100 for around $10 and $14.99 now - if you don't mind non brand name product.
There are still crappy discs- if you go microcenter you can see 50- disc for something like $5.99 on sale all the time. But I don't even bother to remember the brand.
FYI

Burn a CD to transfer data to someone is still cheaper than giving away a USB
