Refurbs through the apple store is the way to go. Still using my refurbished original iPhone close to two years later.

Very tempting to get as a portable e-book reader, with support for the most e-book vendors. Have to wait and see what Apple's cooking on Sept 9th, though.

I don't believe these prices are new... I bought my dad a refurbished 2nd gen IPOD touch 4 weeks ago at the price above.

Like #1 said, apple store refurbs are very good quality. They have new outer shell/case and screen with new accessories. Best of all, apple install new batteries. The only difference is a white box with apple logo rather than the pretty retail box.

Prices aren't new, but availability could be. They're not always in stock.

Don't buy now, the new models are coming out September 9. Expect higher capacities, built-in camera...

Unless the new models have GPS capabilities, then I don't expect that any new features will be worth the price of admission.

Rumor has it that the prices will be comparable and will go down on prior generations. Waiting it out.

With the price difference on these between Gen 1 and Gen 2, there's almost no reason to buy the Gen 1.

But yeah, I'd wait for the Next Apple Announcement before buying.
