The Hitachi in question is a 3.5" Desktop drive, Mr. PC/language "amature".

the seagate in question is also a 3.5" Desktop drive, what's, THE/problem "here"?

Oh? Geez. You are right #5. I made my post without even clicking Ben's link first. I assumed the Seagate deal was for a 2.5" NOTEBOOK drive for it to be even posted as a "deal" at that price.

So, Benny-Boo (or whoever is posting nowadays), do you realize that a 500GB Bare-azz previously-installed previous-gen 1-year warranty drive for 50 bucks STOPPED "being a deal" like a year ago??? Dang, the YANBFB stampede continues.

And, I apologize for that oversight, #4.

Well, this certainly isn't a deal. Newegg was just selling 100% new, current-gen 1TB hard drives for $55 a week or two ago.

so I'm trying to figure out the situation where a system-pull drive is unused. Did they install the HD in the system, leave it sitting without powering it up, then decide they really didn't want the drive? How can anyone be certain of this?

If it were $20-30, it might be a deal. $50 for a 500GB that may or may not be used is No Deal!

#8:

"System Pull" - These are items (typically drives) that were purchased by major manufacturers such as Dell, Gateway, etc. for installation in computer systems. At the end of a PC configuration's model life, the manufacturer liquidates these components from any unsold systems. In many cases these parts have not been installed, but kept on hand in case Dell, etc. needs to replace components in a computer under their warranty. Because of the special warranty contracts between the component manufacturers and the PC maker, system pull items do not typically carry the same factory warranty as an OEM item.
