It's a great body; the sensor and implementation at 6.1megapixels is one of the best you'll find. It's a great beginner DSLR, with room to grow, but enough ease-of-use to let someone new learn without being totally overwhelmed.
That said, the much newer Pentax K2000 body can be had for about $400... consider whether that might be worth it to you.
