Wow I never knew you can buy TVs at this sporting goods store.

Hmm...a Pana 1080p will run you at least $250 more than this 720p.

Prices keep coming down for 720p...$600 for this one during BF2009?

Remember...someone posted a nice table back a few weeks ago: you need to be less than 10' away (with 20/20 vision) to see the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 50" display. Since my particular setup is 11', it seems 1080p isn't really needed in my case (and no way I have 20/20 vision).

That 10' is more like 6' on a 50" TV. And that would be with a 1080p source, blu-ray or Dish Network on demand.

This is a killer deal.

Yeah, even if you decide later to upgrade to 1080p models with better features, you can move this into other room. The newer TVs with bigger screens are not that much bigger than the older models after they conceal the side speakers. This 50" is about same width as my old 37" LCD with side speakers.

I would think the price of the 720ps would be dropping with the newthe new panels coming out.

question is would you geta premium brand 720p set liek this, or a third tier 1080p set? I think this is still the better deal.

You won't find better picture quality on a set this size for anywhere near this price, period.

#8, except there is no such thing as 3rd tier plasma anymore. The smaller plasma panel manufacturers have basically all dropped out of the market. The current players you can count with the fingers on one hand. The big 3 makers (Pana, Samsung, LG) vastly dominate the market and the panels from Hitachi are considered excellent. Other brands just buy panels from the big 3. So unless you consider LG "3rd tier", there is no such thing. May be a 2nd tier.

Great price but the pixel size for close viewing isnt recommended. Make sure you are 8' away with this set.

Wouldn't it be a little bit hard on your eye balls if you were less than 8' away?

LOL #12. Better get a clue on flat panel viewing distances.

Really? Sports Authority? This does look like a good deal.

I don't like the fact that every signal coming into these 720P sets has to be scaled; even 720P signals must be converted to 1366x768. That is going to degrade the picture regardless of the resolution.

Panasonic plasmas have some of the best scalers put in TVs. You won't see a difference. Plasmas have different pixels than LCDs. If you want true 720p get an inferior LCD. You'll lose a lot more PQ with an LCD than a Panny plasma, even if it does have to scale.
