    I have this, works really great if you want optical output/input on your PC. not sure that it is worth the price though (got it from an online auction for ~55)

    If you're planning to use the optical output then all cards will sound exactly the same- digital is digital, it can't vary. The analog outputs vary slightly.
    X-fi is a marketing gimmick, the crystallizer does nothing but boost bass and treble..which can be done in any sound card manually.

    this card sucks. had it and returned it. the software is bloated and there's nothing special about X-fi anyways. If you want a optical out then i suggest going cheaper. the quality will still be the same

    For digital outs (AC3 streams, PCM etc..) yes digital is digital, but the X-fi does do sound processing when its processing games and ASIO type applications. However I do agree the drivers stink, creative has always been like that.
