Only thing that will look good on this 50" is when ur playing 8 bit Nintendo.

#2, hah! you made my day! Its so true, now that LED LCDs will soon bombard the market. Gone are the days of even 1080i.

LED LCDs aren't necessarily better. Most of them will only look slightly better than "traditional" CCFL lit TVs due to improved color gamut. You need a very high end LED LCD like the Sony XBR8 (NOT the XBR9) with local dimming for it to really be an improvement, and even then, it's still LCD. A good plasma (which the X1 isn't particularly, though it's not crap) should still beat the XBR8 in black levels and shadow detail.

#3 needs to go back to his Best Buy job.

don't CCFL get dimmer over time?

doesn't plasma use a lot more power (making more heat) than LCD?

not good if you are in a hot climate

#6: Depends on the set. NeoPDP panels (which the X1 does not have, but the S1 and up do) are supposed to use 30% less than Panasonic's old panels.

good to know #7, both this and the s1 you mention are both listed as "energy star" so that certification is not too helpful. I might get the dell 24" LED LCD monitor as a way to try out the technology for cheap. Even my 2 year old 42" LG LCD tv seems a bit warmer than I expected.
