I don't see how you're going to get any amperage through that circuit. I guess it must work or they wouldn't sell it though.

It would only work if the "dead" battery was only a little dead. I think it would still take about 10 minutes to charge the dead batter a bit to start the car.

it says "as little as 10-15 minutes"...could be a lot longer. as much as i hate using jumper cables, at least you know it's battery to battery instead of waiting to see if this thing works

It's difficult to see how this is equals jumper cables in any way except for price.

It is a good frugal habit to trigger a buying impulse based upon a low price. It is only sensible if the product is actually viable though. That rules out this "deal".

As #4 put it more succinctly: junk, junk, junk.

I favor 8 gauge jumper cables which will handle a very high amperage. Here is some from Amazon for $20:

#1, these things don't show up on sites like Yugster because they can't keep them on the shelves at regular stores...

I think these things exist because maybe the majority of "people" are uncomfortable dealing with regular jumper cables. They cannot remember that polarity is important or how to jump start a car. Unfortunately lack of knowledge does not keep them from breeding like rabbits!

These "charger" cords are good for non-manly types. There's an equivalent set in my wife's car.

They're not "jumper cables", but they're better than nothing and pretty much fool proof to use.

You've got to plug in to the cigarette lighter and then stick other end up your ass, then rev engine at about 5,000 rpms for a minute. Those with erectile disfunction will see a rise in their pants. Whalla, the poor man's V!agra !!!

They're crap. Waste of money, etc. You can't draw more than about 10 amps through a lighter socket as that's what some are fused at, including anything else on the same circuit.

That's why you have to wait 15 minutes to get the same amount of charge you would hooking jumper cables up for zero minutes, simply having the jumper cables connected to another running automobile will give you more power with no wait at all, but as we know often if the battery is drained, through your attempts to start the car you drain it more, and even with regular jumper cables you have to wait a minute or two for best results, or else you just drain your own battery again in the process making it even worse for holding a charge next time.

if the dead cars battery is really drained/dead you COULD disconnect it so the running car is not trying to charge it as well at the same time it is trying to start the dead car. some people put the positive clamp on the positive terminal of the starter if you are unsure that the heavy cable that goes from the battery to the starter is a good connection.

I really like the $6 float chargers from harbor freight. they will not overcharge and are good to leave on a car that hasn't been run for a while.
leave it charging overnight or more if you are not in a hurry before starting the car.

If you disconnect the dead car battery what have you gained? It won't run without a battery, you still have to reconnect it before disconnecting the jumper cables and if the engine doesn't bog down running cold with the alternator at full load, you still have to wait for the battery to recharge.

There might be a very few times disconnecting the battery inbetween will help but probably 9 times out of 10 if it's that far gone you should just ask the person with the running car to drive you to a store carrying your size battery, otherwise even getting a little juice into your battery not only gives a local source of starting power with lower impedance, but in the wintertime that charging current warms the battery up a little, which in the winter, was probably exactly what was needed as many aging batteries aren't much good below about -10C.
