the description on their webpage doesnt name any of the components except the brake calipers. Plus the gear ratio is not good for skidding, so why even mention skidding in the description. For the price, who are they trying to offload this on? idiots?

There is no name brand on any of the components because they are likely the nashbar house brand parts. Doesn't mean they are terrible, just generic parts sometimes even made in the same factory as name brand stuff.

This is an entry-level fixed gear bike that only weighs 22 lbs. Read the reviews on Nashbar if you want more information. Or, contact Nashbar directly - they have been good to deal with in the past.

250$ not bad for a fixie.. Components? just get better parts whenever they break..

250 is a great deal for entry level fixed. you'll spend more than that later, when you buy a conversion with good components, but this is still a good deal. you'll spend close to this converting a bike you already own, but this is new and correct!

The only benefit of a fixed gear bike is the lower weight. When you ask fixie fanatics why their fixie is better, their reasons are just ludicrous, such as "it feels more like an extension of yourself" or "they handle better on ice". Like I would really want to ride my bike in freezing weather on ice! Fixies are for people who want to be different for different's sake because they think it makes them cool. A complete waste of money.

Yes, but having 10,740 posts has just inflated my coolness beyond your ability to comprehend and it really does handle better on ice. However, my coolness isn't for sale (because you couldn't afford it). Wink

Actually fixies are good for a number of reasons, they are low cost reliable transportation, they are simple to maintain and are good training tools if you are into cycling.

But I agree, those fixie scenester clowns with the manpris are irritating.

better to find an old road bike on craig's list or in the local paper... Pull the gears, etc and buy a good fixed hub... or better, build out a wheel with fixed and free wheel hubs so you can flip the rear tire around and have an easier time of it on the way home when you go too far or end up on lots of hills...

If you're honestly thinking about buying a fixed gear bike, you better find one to try out first. The image shows only a front brake. Ever try to do a quick stop on a fixie on a wet, sandy street? If not, better buy a helmet while you're at it. How about riding a fixed gear down a big hill?

"fixing" an old bike with 27" wheels takes a little jimmy rigging of the brakes. There's a difference between 27" and 700c wheels.

I have a fixed gear bike and use it to work out. For me, the fixie gives a better workout. A fixie is a race bike originally built for a wooden track, not for off road riding. This one comes with hand brakes so you don't have to skid to stop, but believe me it will skid if you push it. It also has the same gearing that my Fuji has which is fine for road riding. Nashbar is a good company and has excellent gear. I paid $400 for my fixie and it came without brakes.
