Many people still using regular land lines?

many are; I use voip. i don't like these because they don't use "regular" rechargeable batteries. when they go out the proprietary batteries are often more expensive than a handset.

Amazon offers this thing for same price.

#1, in some areas, land line is a must in order to connect the required fire/flood alarm system.
Panasonic cordless phones are the best.

#3 I read the CNET reviews on the Panasonic KX-TG7400's or the KX-TG6400's and they were giving them high marks. I am actually in need of a GOOD cordless home phone; I got the comcast triple play and it came with the home phone svc. I subsequently read the user reviews on the Panansonics listed above and they were being bashed for all kinds of problems. Any reason why you like the Panasonics? I used to have a uniden that worked wonderfully and am thinkin about going back to a Uniden unit; Target currently has a two-pack phone on clearance for a very attractive clearance price...

when power is out, your VOIP phone won't work. Your cell may not either if the cell towner power is out.

When power is out, these won't work either. Might as well, plug in the old rotary phone. However, these Panasonic phones are far better than Vtech, Uniden, GE and other cheap phones you see at Riteaid, CVS, Walgreen and so forth. Got the three pack, one for the kitchen, livingroom, and bedroom. The only downside is the keypad. It doesn't light up like my older model which I had for 10 years.

I keep one phone with a corded handset in the house just for power outages (in most cases the phone line will still have power even though the house is out). One more option to avoid cordless issues and/or dishcharged cell batteries in an emergency.

I agree #8, we shouldn't get rid of our old stuff completely...
keep the phone that uses no power, and batteries just in case..
