bought the 320GB version from WD online store for $58. these are great for backing up, just be sure to use a 'direct-to-motherboard' USB plug and not the ones on the front of your tower cause they can't poer these drives.

I've had mixed results with all different ports, if you are having problems try another. sometimes the front USB's are faster.

My drive runs fine on the front or rear USB ports. Maybe zenith97 it is a feature/fault of your MB that the front ports are not powered or under-powered
