My personal preferences after viewing many many tvs in store are Vizio VF550M (I think best deal at walmart) and Samsung LN52B750. These are 120Hz. They blew away competition while viewing in store.
IMHO, I feel like you don't get much added value for the 240Hz tech premium.

@4 You probably get 0 added value for 240hz. 120hz is only a bonus because some folks get migraines from 60-70hz, but I don't think I've ever heard of a person with vision able to detect >100hz. 120 is already more than enough at that point.
Regardless, unless we're talking PC games, most HD content runs at 24/30 frames including "next gen" consoles and you have to use dejuddering or whatever it's called to fill in the rest. It looks like freaky marionettes dancing on your screen.

Be aware just because they advertise at 120/240 doesn't mean they accept that signal. Most TVs just attempt to generate the missing frames, they don't actually accept them from outside sources. So it might chop a 120 frame computer signal down to 60 then create the missing frames itself using dejuddering.

#9, I think 12 inches is too far for this size. I'd get closer so I can see what's going on in each pixel.
