i bought this 2 weeks ago. using it now. works great and actually came with 4gigs of ram instead of 2. retail price when this was new was 1599. so not a bad deal.
as for the price for what you get vs pc. you have to want a laptop this small for it to make sense. I looked for a while to find a pc laptop this small. dell has a smaller one that is 2k$?? and a p8600 and 4gigs of ram isnt trendy slow hardware. sure if i wanted an asus that was 2inches thick i could have got a gaming laptop. but i dont think most people buy laptops to game.
it was worth getting over the mac book pro with half the ram and smaller hard drive and slower processor. all i miss out on is the 7 hours battery and sd card slot.
btw this is my first mac computer (iphone user for years) and its been great so far. many dont have the money to spend. but if you can id say pick it up.

#12, this one's a Macbook, before they introduced a 13" model to the Macbook Pro line. This is not the one with the 7 hour built-in battery. This is one generation back.

#7, they just turned the macbook 13.3" into the macbook pro 13.3", price is actually better on the pro's then the previous pricing structure. Also no the base model comes with an illuminated keyboard.
In addition, this is not the 2.0 its the 2.4 which retailed for $1600 so $999 is not the orig price.

Don't forget a much higher quality screen. That's probably the biggest single improvement.
