Got one of these earlier in the year for about $180. Works well, but probably a bit complicated for technophobes. Still, a dry vacuum cleaner can't do the kind of job these machines can do. Highly recommended.

2nd on the recommendation. I bought 6 months ago based on reviews at Amazon and it works really well. Carpets are only slightly damp just after using it, but dry overnight.

BTW, don't be fooled by the "SteamVac" name--there is no steam! It doesn't even heat the water. You have to add hot water to the cleaning solution tank.

Also would recommend. With a dog, we have to clean the carpets every few months, and this definitely does the job. I would say very comparable when we would hire companies to come in and clean them.

One trick is to microwave the water before you put it in the tank to get it as hot as possible. And after you are done cleaning, do one more pass with just a tank full of pure water to pull up any of the excess solution.

This looks identical to my Hoover Steamvac that I bought from Service Merchandise about 16 years ago.

Still use it about twice a year.

Still going strong.

Yeah it's identical. My parents had an old one that finally broke, and I was able to use the tank and attachments for spares on this one.
