Does the Windows 7 Ultimate edition actually have something extra that makes it worth anything? Vista Ultimate was a bit of a let down.

From what I understand, Win 7 Ultimate offers hardware encrytion (if supported by your MB), and your choice of 35 foreign languages. Costs a bit more than Win 7 Pro (unless, of course, you purchased Pro upgrade edition during their $99 pre-order promo).
What's great about the upgrade editions is that you can, with a tweak or two, install the OS as if you had a full installation edition, saving you $$$.

Not a deal - Fry's ad from last Friday (7-day ad) had the OEM Ultimate version for $159. I suspect there will be other deals closer to BF.

Definitely waiting awhile, without being a student or tech I doubt I'll be shelling $$$ out for a copy. Running Ubuntu now.

I could save you all a bunch of money and even headaches.. Try Ubuntu or Fedora.

I preordered Win7 Pro upgrade from Amazon at the $99 price - received it on the release date. The upgrade version came with both a 32 bit and 64 bit installation DVD - I did a complete fresh reinstall using the 64 bit DVD - no 'tweaks' required.
Already saw somebody on Philly Craigslist selling their 32 bit installation DVD - I can't imagine that the activation key would work since he had already installed the 64 bit version and was selling his 'extra'.

Win 7 works well. Fast 25 minute install on a modern machine vs. XP or Vista that take at least 2x as long. It's snappy and responsive and feels as quick as XP.

If you have to stick with W7 32-bit and have 4GB or more, there's a tweak to open up 64GB support under 32-bit. Intel & AMD CPUs have supported PAE for a long time, allowing for more than 4GB addressing in a 32-bit OS. Google "ReadyFor4GB" or read
