It actually makes a difference with the old 60 gig versions. My first PS3 died on me because of heat issues. After getting it replaced I bought this air cooler and it seems to keep the temp down and increases the noise. I would rather have more noise than a fried PS3. It also helped to have it lay on its side instead of in my entertainment center.
