Why should notebooks require external cooling anyway? All you need is a flat pad to place it on.
No laptop manufacturer will tell you to buy a cooling pad..seems to me these things are a total waste.

Not all notebooks are designed very efficiently for cooling, especially when you are gaming or otherwise putting them under a lot of stress. Manufacturers sacrifice efficiency for size and cosmetics. However, simply elevating the laptop above the desk it is sitting on so it has extra breathing room besides the millimeter of space the little footpads allow will usually make just as much if not more of a difference in temperatures than using a cheap cooling pad. There are also poweruser tweaks one can do to make the notebook generate less heat such as undervolting the CPU (which does not cause a performance hit).

Well duh, that would mean admitting their product gets hot.

Sadly this is also true more often than not, if you really need a pad you have to do a lot of shopping around to figure out which ones would actually make a difference for your laptop, or build one yourself.

$18.50 at Amazon, with better pics and some lackluster reviews.
