I think it is a decent router (based on the reviews) and you can put DD-WRT on it.

and google "whr-g300n antenna mod" parts for adding a pair 10+dbi external antennas are freely available off ebay for under $10 shipped.
Heck, there's even 18dbi antennas if you don't mind 14 inch antennas hanging off your 5x5 inch router.
